First Book Grant for Research on Minoritized Christian Communities in North America

About this program

The Louisville Institute offers First Book Grants of up to $55,000 for research leave during the 2027–2028 academic year, supporting early-career scholars completing a first scholarly book—or a second book when necessary for tenure—on minoritized Christian communities and related faith, institutional, and social issues in the United States or Canada. Eligible applicants must hold a terminal research degree, be pre-tenured full-time faculty in tenure-track or renewable positions at an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution, have experienced significant professional adversity, and secure release from academic duties for up to one year. Applicants must submit a project proposal, adversity statement, budget, CV, recommendations, and institutional release letter by January 15, 2027; recipients must attend the January 2028 Winter Seminar.
