Folklore and Science Annual Prizes

About this program

The American Folklore Society’s Folklore and Science Section offers two annual $400 prizes for presentation-length papers examining the boundaries, intersections, and interdisciplinary exchanges between folklore and science. One prize recognizes senior scholars and professionals, while the other recognizes junior scholars, including graduate and undergraduate students; winners are announced by September 1 and honored at the AFS Annual Meeting.

Submissions are due July 15 and must include an anonymized paper of approximately 10 pages and a cover letter with contact information and a 100-word explanation of the paper’s relevance, combined into a single PDF. Applications must be submitted through the AFS Prize Application Form, with all personal identifiers removed from the paper and citations.
