Friedenwald Award

About this program

ARVO offers the Friedenwald Award to recognize outstanding research in basic or clinical sciences applied to ophthalmology, honoring contributions comparable to those recognized by the Proctor Medal. The recipient presents the Friedenwald Award Lecture at the ARVO Annual Meeting and receives a plaque, complimentary registration, hotel, travel, and per diem. Nominees and nominators need not be ARVO members, but current ARVO officers, Trustees, and Awards Committee members are ineligible; nominees should be mid- or late-career researchers with exceptional achievements. Nominations, due March 1, 2027, must include a nomination letter, supporter information, summary statement, Google Scholar link, and CV, with institutional and prior-award restrictions applying.
