Friedenwald Award

About this program

The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) offers the Friedenwald Award to recognize outstanding basic or clinical research contributions to ophthalmology. The recipient presents the Friedenwald Award Lecture at the ARVO Annual Meeting and receives a plaque, complimentary registration, hotel, travel, and per diem; applications open November 1, 2026, and close March 1, 2027. Nominees are generally mid- or late-career researchers, and neither nominees nor nominators must be ARVO members, although current ARVO officers, trustees, and Awards Committee members are ineligible. Nominations require a detailed letter, three support letters, a 75-word summary, Google Scholar profile, and a CV with full bibliography.
