GHI Fellowship at the Horner Library

About this program

The German Historical Institute, in partnership with the German Society of Pennsylvania, will award two to four GHI Fellowships for research at the Joseph Horner Memorial Library in Philadelphia for visits of up to four weeks between April 1 and Sept. 30, 2026; awards include a travel subsidy and an allowance of $1,000–$3,500 depending on length and qualifications. Fellows will work with the Horner Library’s 50,000‑volume German‑American collection (17th–20th centuries) and may have access to other Philadelphia special collections; projects on the Revolutionary War, Continental Congress, and early republic are especially welcome for 2026 but not required. Eligible applicants are PhD and M.A. students and advanced scholars of any discipline or national origin; inquiries and applications can be directed to fellowships@ghi-dc.org.
