About this program

The Wenner-Gren Foundation’s Global Initiatives Grant supports ambitious, collaborative projects that expand anthropology’s public impact by communicating trusted anthropological knowledge to broad nonacademic audiences and developing new public-engagement platforms or infrastructure. Awards are approximately $80,000, with projects expected to demonstrate clear goals, methods, outcomes, sustainability plans, and relevant project samples; institutional overhead is not covered. Applicants must hold a PhD in anthropology or an equivalent degree in socio-cultural, linguistic, biological anthropology, or archaeology and maintain a strong connection to the field. Applicants must also have completed requirements for existing Wenner-Gren awards, may have only one application under consideration, and may submit only one resubmission of a previously unsuccessful application.
