The Botanical Society of America offers the Graduate Student Dissertation Award in Phylogenetic Comparative Plant Biology—an annual endowed award of up to $10,000 to support Ph.D. research focused on phylogeny, trait evolution across clades, or phylogenetically patterned biotic relationships; funds may cover equipment, supplies, research and meeting travel, and summer support, and awardees are expected to publish part of the work in American Journal of Botany (OA fees covered). Applicants must be doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy (or equivalent), and both the student and their advisor must be BSA members; international students are eligible. Applications require a 300-word abstract and a proposal (maximum 5 single-spaced pages including figures, methods ≤1 page), a 2-page CV, budget and timeline, a 200-word broader impacts statement, and one advisor letter explicitly confirming candidacy and stating how the project differs substantially from the advisor’s research; awards are paid through institutional sponsored-research offices with no overhead allowed.
