Grant for participation in a conference abroad

About this program

Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) operates a permanent travel grant to cover Brussels–conference venue return travel for researchers who present (oral or poster) at international scientific conferences; travel bookings must be made through FWO-authorized agencies and official proof of acceptance is required (may be submitted after application). Applications must be submitted in English via the FWO e-loket at least three months before departure, with a complete e-loket profile, and are evaluated by the CIWC (results by e-mail). Applicants must be affiliated throughout the stay to a university or university hospital in the Flemish Community or to a federal/Flemish scientific institute; predoctoral applicants need a master’s from an EEA member state or Switzerland (or a declaration permitting doctoral work if trained outside), and from 2025-01-01 postdoctoral applicants are eligible only if the PhD was awarded no more than six years before the conference start date. Publication and other limits apply: for conferences in the EEA/Switzerland/UK at least one peer‑reviewed publication as first or last author is required, for conferences outside those areas at least three peer‑reviewed publications with at least one as first or last author (domain exceptions possible); maximum one grant per person per civil year and maximum two applications per research unit for the same conference, with positive host advice required for higher‑risk destinations.
