Grants for Marine Safety and Environment Projects

About this program

Bonnell Cove Foundation awards small grants (generally up to about $10,000) to support projects that improve small-boat safety—such as personal safety equipment, operational/training protocols, and crew awareness—and projects that increase understanding and protection of the marine environment (e.g., green-boat technologies, coastal conservation, education). The Foundation favors well-defined, discrete projects that can be meaningfully assessed and prefers to fund substantial portions of projects, with priority given to organizations that lack substantial operating budgets. Applicants must be U.S. 501(c)(3) public charities (not private foundations under §509(a)) and submit a Grant Summary Form plus organizational history, board/staff resumes, evidence of tax-exempt status, a detailed project description and budget, justification of the request, and an evaluation plan. The Board meets twice yearly (March and October; deadlines Feb 1 and Sept 1) and grantees must report on project progress and use of funds within one year and annually thereafter until completion.
