About this program

The Hardman Fund for North Adams, established by the Hardman families and administered by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, awards competitive grants to nonprofit organizations serving North Adams, Clarksburg and Florida, MA, and Stamford, VT, for projects in arts, culture, historic preservation, health, human and social services, education and the environment. Priority is given to long-term initiatives that help people move out of poverty and to projects that enrich the cultural and natural environment, with special emphasis on basic or emergency needs, sole providers of vital services for vulnerable populations, and collaborative efforts; award size and number vary and large grants may be considered for seminal projects. Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations that demonstrate potential to expand or deepen impact and a commitment to equity and serving underserved or marginalized communities; organizations that discriminate in constitution, by-laws, or practice are ineligible. Applications are submitted via Berkshire Taconic’s portal (typically opening in early September), are reviewed on impact, equity and feasibility, require outcome reporting after completion, and applicants are notified within about two months of the deadline.
