Hayek Fund Expense Support (Faculty Research)

About this program

The Hayek Fund at the Institute for Humane Studies awards grants of $500–$5,000 to faculty at accredited colleges and universities to offset targeted research expenses—such as conference presentation travel, archival research, datasets or LLM subscriptions, research assistants, and publication-related costs—supporting scholarship in the classical liberal tradition. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, must be submitted at least six weeks before the expense and typically receive a decision within six weeks; retroactive expenses, living costs, hardware, conference travel without a scheduled presentation, and institutional overhead are ineligible. Eligible applicants are faculty actively engaged in liberal-tradition research (independent scholars are generally ineligible), and priority is given to projects tied to IHS initiatives or scholarly communities, with clear dissemination plans and alignment to IHS priorities (political/legal foundations of liberal democracy, economic freedom, or institutional design for stable self-government).
