Herman and Dorothy Behls Travel Award

About this program

The ASHRAE Foundation, ASHRAE TC 5.2 (Duct Design), and the ASHRAE Illinois Chapter offer the Herman and Dorothy Behls Travel Award, a $1,500 endowed grant to subsidize an undergraduate or graduate engineering student’s travel to the ASHRAE Winter Conference and Student Program (January 2026, Las Vegas). The recipient is expected to attend student activities, Student Program seminars, the AHR Expo, technical committee meetings, and governance/leadership sessions, with a TC liaison coordinating scheduling and orientation. Eligibility is limited to undergraduate and graduate engineering students, with preference for ASHRAE student members who have demonstrated promotion of ASHRAE and leadership at the university, student branch, or chapter level. Applications (due annually by October 15; recipients notified by November 15) must include a trip budget, plan for additional funding if costs exceed $1,500, an ASHRAE membership number if available, and a record of past ASHRAE involvement.
