HFG Distinguished Scholars (Harry Frank Guggenheim Distinguished Scholar Awards)

About this program

The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation’s Distinguished Scholar Awards fund individual researchers (or small PI teams) conducting policy-relevant research that advances understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence across disciplines, with priority for proposals addressing urgent, present-day problems such as war, terrorism, intimate-partner violence, climate-related conflicts, and political extremism. Awards most often range from $15,000–$75,000 per year for one or two years (larger requests may be considered with strong justification) and support specific projects rather than institutional programs or graduate-degree work. Applicants of any nationality may apply and need no formal degree though most recipients hold advanced degrees; awards may not fund research undertaken to satisfy graduate-degree requirements. Prospective applicants must submit an online Letter of Interest by August 1 (invited full proposals due September 15).
