HHMI Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program — 2028 Competition

About this program

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program supports exceptional postdoctoral scientists in basic biological and biomedical sciences as they develop independent research careers, offering up to two years of salary or stipend support, eligible expenses, professional development, and faculty-search guidance. Fellows may transition to the Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program after securing a qualifying faculty position at an HHMI-eligible institution. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent; have no more than seven years of postdoctoral research experience by December 15, 2026; be in or entering a mentored postdoctoral position at an eligible institution; and plan to begin a qualifying faculty appointment by May 1, 2030. Applications open November 3, 2026, and require one to three publicly available primary research articles in which the applicant is a leading or corresponding author, along with research, career-development, leadership, and mentoring materials.
