The Society of Biological Psychiatry’s Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals or nonprofit institutions that have made outstanding contributions through service, advocacy, and leadership to improve the well‑being of people affected by mental illness, reduce stigma, and advance supportive policies; it is an honorific award with no specified monetary prize. Nominees may be non‑profit organizations with sustained advocacy or grant‑making contributions anywhere in the world, or individual nominees (individuals need not be SOBP members). Nominations are accepted only from SOBP members via the conference submissions portal and must include a nomination letter (maximum three pages) with a clearly identified section disclosing any potential financial or personal conflicts of interest; the Honorific Awards Committee reviews nominations and recommends recipients to the SOBP Council for final approval.
