About this program

The International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) awards up to €10,000 twice yearly through its Institutional Grants Scheme to strengthen Earth sciences/sedimentology teaching and research in less developed countries by purchasing equipment and teaching/research materials (including shipping/import costs) on the recipient’s behalf rather than issuing cash. Applicants must be full IAS members holding a permanent university position and are expected to be based in countries the World Bank classifies as historically spending <1% GDP on R&D, with exceptions considered only for well-justified cases. Applications must be submitted via the IAS website as a single PDF using the provided Word template and include an institutional letter exempting the grant from overheads, an itemised budget with official supplier quotations (including shipping), CV, department mission statement, staff list, curriculum structure, student numbers, facilities description and a motivation statement; funding cannot be used for salaries, travel, institutional core funding/overheads, student bursaries or generic computing. Deadlines recur 31 March and 30 September with email notification within three months of each closing date.
