ICRS Coral Reef Conservation Award

About this program

International Coral Reef Society (ICRS) offers the annual ICRS Coral Reef Conservation Award to recognize regionally or globally significant contributions to coral reef protection—examples include establishment/management of marine protected areas, securing protective policy measures, conservation education, research on social/scientific/economic aspects, and effective reef restoration—and includes a certificate, US$2,500, an invitation to present at the next ICRS symposium, and an invitation to contribute to Reef Encounters. Eligible nominees are individuals whose work has international importance (even if concentrated in one country) and who typically have a substantial record of achievement (usually 10+ years); no formal education, ICRS membership, or service requirement is mandated. Nominations must include sufficient detail of the candidate’s qualifications and accomplishments and letters of support (for this award one or both letters may be from non-members). Applications are due 15 February (year unspecified); questions should be directed to the ICRS Awards Committee Chair.
