Inclusivity and Diversity Book Subvention Program

About this program

The Medieval Academy of America offers subventions of up to $5,000 to university or other non-profit scholarly presses to support publication of an accepted book by a Medieval Academy member that broadens the scope of medieval studies, with priority for non‑European or inclusivity/diversity–focused projects. Applications are accepted only from publishers (not authors) and are evaluated on the book’s quality, commitment to diversity/inclusivity, and demonstrated financial need; awardees must acknowledge the subvention in the book. Eligible applications require a publisher cover letter certifying acceptance, two or more substantive readers’ reports, a brief itemized budget showing how the subvention will be used, and a ≤500‑word author statement (including employer certification if applicable); unrevised dissertations are ineligible. Annual deadline is typically May 1 (confirm current year); incomplete applications will not be considered.
