Independent and Public Folklore Travel Stipend

About this program

The American Folklore Society’s Public Programs and Independent Folklorists sections offer a $1,000 stipend to support an independent folklorist working in public programming who has been accepted to present at the AFS Annual Meeting. Funds may cover transportation, registration, lodging, and per diem expenses. Applicants must live at least 100 miles from the meeting location, derive a significant portion of their income from independent consulting or scholarly work, attend at least two full meeting days and section business meetings, and not have received an Independent Travel Award in the previous two years. Applications are due June 15 and must include a narrative, budget estimate, current résumé or CV, and accepted meeting proposal.
