Independent Research Grants (IRGs)

About this program

The Society for Army Historical Research (SAHR) awards Independent Research Grants (IRGs) of up to £1,000 annually to support independent, non-university research leading to publications on the British Army or the land forces of the British Empire and the Commonwealth; the National Army Museum contributes half of the grant funding. Applications are welcomed from around the world but are restricted to members of SAHR, and projects must be undertaken outside the university environment and aimed at producing publishable work. Competitions are governed by the IRG Rules and Guidance (approved 2017); consult SAHR for application procedures and current deadlines.
