About this program

The Sarri Family Fellowship, administered by the University of Michigan, supports a UM graduate student or postdoctoral fellow conducting social science research to improve low‑income students' chances of attending and succeeding in postsecondary education. Awards of up to $6,000 may be used for research expenses and/or living costs, and recipients may apply for a second year of funding. Eligible applicants are current UM graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; research may be conducted outside the U.S. if relevant to U.S. contexts and must be completed by 2026‑08‑31. Applications (internal deadline 2026‑02‑09) require a CV and a two‑page, single‑spaced project narrative with title, start/end dates, sponsor/dissertation chair contact, project description, hypotheses/design, deliverables, timeline, and a simple budget; listed faculty will be notified and recipients must submit a 2–3 page completion report.
