J. G. Edwards Prize

About this program

The Coleopterists Society awards the annual J. G. Edwards Prize—a $500 cash award and commemorative plaque—recognizing the best Master's-thesis–based research paper on the biology and evolution of beetles published in the preceding calendar year. Eligible works are ICZN‑compliant papers or books widely distributed (journal subscription or sale), published in the prior calendar year, with the lead (first) author having been a Master's student; publications in any Latin‑alphabet language are acceptable. Nominations must be submitted by members of the scientific community (self‑nominations are not accepted) by 1 March of the year following publication and must include a nomination letter with citation and nominee contact, an advisor letter attesting the paper is thesis‑based and (for multi‑authored works) detailing each author’s contributions, plus a PDF of the work. A selection committee of coleopterist experts judges nominations and the award is presented at The Coleopterists Society annual general meeting in the year after the competition period.
