Jack Kleinman Memorial Award for Volcano Research

About this program

The Geological Society of America and U.S. Geological Survey offer the Jack Kleinman Memorial Award, providing up to $5,000 for high-impact, field-focused volcanology research. Funds support travel, living expenses, field supplies, and analytical costs, with preference for studies of U.S. volcanoes, particularly in specified western regions. Undergraduate, graduate, and aspiring graduate students are eligible regardless of enrollment status or citizenship, and cooperation with a USGS Volcano Science Center staff member is encouraged. Applications require two recommendation letters, including at least one from a current research mentor, and are accepted from 1 December through 18 February.
