James A. Sauer Memorial Fellowship (Sauer Fellowship)

About this program

The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) offers the James A. Sauer Memorial Fellowship to support graduate students conducting archaeological fieldwork or research in Jordan, funded from an endowment in memory of James A. Sauer. For the 2026–2027 (even-year) cycle ACOR will make one award: either $1,500 (without residency) or $500 plus a one-month residency at ACOR, with even years reserved for non‑Jordanian applicants and odd years reserved for Jordanian graduate students. Eligible applicants must be enrolled graduate students participating in an ACOR-approved project in Jordan and submit a completed application form, a project proposal narrative (up to 2,000 words, excluding bibliography), transcripts (graduate and undergraduate for first-year graduate students) and one recommendation. Applications are due February 15, with applicants notified in April.
