James H. Shea Award — Excellence in Earth Science Writing and Editing

The National Association of Geoscience Teachers annually awards the James H. Shea Award to honor individuals for exceptional writing and/or editing of Earth science materials for the general public and/or Earth science teachers; no monetary prize is specified. Nominations may be submitted by NAGT members, including self-nominations, via an online form and must include a nominator’s letter (maximum two pages) describing the nominee’s contributions. Eligible works are interpreted broadly (print, online, visual, multimedia) and are evaluated by a committee using criteria of impact and engagement, audience relevance, clarity/readability, and innovation, with consideration of evidence of reach and underlying scholarship. Nominations remain active for three years and an annual deadline is listed as April 15 (no year specified).
