James Marshall Fellowship

About this program

The University of Connecticut Library’s Archives & Special Collections offers the $4,000 James Marshall Fellowship to support early-career authors and illustrators developing new literature for children and young adults. Fellows gain access to original artwork, author and illustrator archives, and the Northeast Children’s Literature Collection to inform their proposed projects. Applicants must submit a project description of no more than two pages, a preliminary list of collections to be consulted, and a résumé or CV; proposals are evaluated based on project significance and the necessity of using the collections. Recipients must complete at least five full research days in residence and share their findings through a blog post, podcast interview, or staff colloquium; applications are due annually on January 30.
