James R. Wiseman Book Award

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America’s James R. Wiseman Book Award recognizes the academic work on an archaeological topic judged most worthy of distinction each year, with the winner honored at the AIA Annual Meeting. Eligible books or monographs must have been published within the four calendar years preceding the award year; textbooks are excluded, while edited volumes must make an exceptionally strong contribution. Authors or editors must have maintained AIA membership in good standing for at least one year before nomination, a requirement applying to the primary author, editor, or principal investigator for collaborative works. Nominations from AIA members, authors, and publishers are due March 15, 2027; publishers may nominate no more than two books.
