James River Water Quality Improvement Program

About this program

The Virginia Environmental Endowment’s James River Water Quality Improvement Program funds substantial, on-the-ground projects that deliver measurable water-quality benefits in the James River watershed, prioritizing riparian buffers, agricultural pollution reduction, living shorelines, stream restoration, and investments in the Jamestown region. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, local governments, conservation districts, state and federal agencies, tribes, and educational institutions; individuals and for-profit entities are ineligible. Projects must generally run one to three years and request at least $100,000 annually, with implementation projects and proposals demonstrating significant, cost-effective pollution reductions receiving priority. Applications are limited to two per applicant, must be submitted as a signed Word document to jrwqip@vee.org by June 15, and matching funds are encouraged.
