Joanne Simpson Medal (AGU) — Middle-career award in Earth and space science

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awards the Joanne Simpson Medal annually to two–three middle-career scientists from any Earth and space science discipline for transformative scientific advances, leadership, and service; honorees receive an engraved medal, recognition at AGU's annual meeting, two Honors Reception tickets, and possible induction into the AGU College of Fellows (subject to membership/fellow conditions). Successful nominations should document scientific excellence (contributions, publications, methods), scientific impact, broader societal impact, and reputation and leadership. Nominees must be within 20 years of receiving their terminal degree; nominators and co‑nominators must be active AGU members and all parties must comply with AGU ethics and conflict-of-interest policies. Peer or self-nominations are permitted; submissions are accepted from 5 January to 2 March (contact honors@agu.org for details).
