John O. Iatrides Best Dissertation Prize

About this program

The Modern Greek Studies Association awards the biennial John O. Iatrides Best Dissertation Prize for the best English-language dissertation on a Greek subject across the humanities and social sciences. The award includes $2,000, one year of MGSA membership, and $500 toward travel to the 2026 MGSA Symposium. Eligible dissertations must have been completed at a North American institution, use English as a primary language, and focus primarily on the post-Byzantine Greek world, including Greek diasporas; applicants must be current MGSA members when submitting. Complete dissertations must be submitted electronically in PDF format, with acceptance year and dissertation committee information, by April 1, 2028.
