John R. (Jack) Vallentyne Award

The International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) offers the John R. (Jack) Vallentyne Award to recognize sustained, significant efforts to inform and educate the public and policymakers about large-lake protection and restoration; the award is announced at IAGLR’s annual Conference on Great Lakes Research and no monetary prize is specified. Eligible nominees are individuals or teams with at least 20 years of substantial education/outreach contributions beyond a local community, working on any large lake (educators, environmental journalists, and similar science–public intermediaries are eligible); IAGLR membership is not required for nominees but nominations must be submitted by IAGLR members. Nominations must include a nomination letter from an IAGLR member describing the nominee’s outreach contributions, the nominee’s resume, and at least three letters of support (preferably from IAGLR members); candidates are judged on Contribution, Scope, and Impact.
