About this program

The Joyce Foundation’s Culture Program (2021–2025 strategy) provides multi-year general operating support, project grants, professional development funding (residencies, fellowships, awards) and a limited number of grants for large-scale commissions and presentations to strengthen underrepresented artists and arts organizations and advance racial equity and cultural vibrancy in Chicago and the Great Lakes region. Priority is given to Chicago-based organizations and artists—especially organizations led by or serving communities of color and historically underfunded artists—that demonstrate robust professional programming, strategic approaches to sustainability, and strong community partnerships. The Foundation generally does not fund school-based K–12 arts education or capital campaigns, awards very few new grants each year, and accepts Joyce Awards applications from select Great Lakes cities (Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis–St. Paul); inquiries may be sent to culture@joycefdn.org.
