Kenneth M. England Student Award in Southern Studies

About this program

The Kenneth M. England Endowed Chair in Southern American Literature at Georgia State University, in partnership with the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA), offers the Kenneth M. England Student Award in Southern Studies to provide up to three complimentary registrations covering conference registration costs for GSU students presenting individual papers at the SAMLA conference. Eligible applicants are current GSU undergraduate or graduate students who submit an individual paper abstract or session proposal via the Ballast system and indicate interest by checking the award box; panel organizers may also identify qualifying presenters and self-declared sessions are reviewed internally by SAMLA. Proposals must demonstrate a contribution to southern literary and/or cultural studies (through work on southern primary texts or the use of southern studies methods), and recipients must attend and present at the conference to receive the complimentary registration.
