King V. Hostick Research Scholarship on Illinois History

Offered by the Illinois State Historical Society in cooperation with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and endowed by the late manuscript dealer King V. Hostick, the King V. Hostick Research Scholarship awards graduate stipends (up to $5,000) to support dissertation research on Illinois history, with preference for projects using the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library collections. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited graduate history or library science program (other disciplines may be considered at the committee’s discretion) and propose a dissertation topic directly related to Illinois history that is approved by their graduate committee. Required materials include a certified graduate transcript, a letter from the dissertation director certifying advancement to candidacy, a current CV, a 4–6 page research description (methodology, historiography, bibliography, and sources), two additional faculty recommendation letters, and a detailed budget; awardees must deposit the completed dissertation (and any published book) in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Stipends are determined individually based on documented research needs.
