Kiva, a nonprofit organization, provides 0% interest, no-fee loans ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 to support U.S. small businesses, prioritizing character, community impact, and social capital over traditional credit metrics. The loans are designed to foster business growth and financial inclusion, with repayment terms of 12-36 months. Eligibility requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, reside and operate a business in the U.S. (excluding Nevada and North Dakota), and not have certain criminal convictions or be in foreclosure or bankruptcy. Businesses must also avoid ineligible activities such as federally illegal practices, tobacco, weapons, cryptocurrencies, and adult entertainment, while nonprofits must demonstrate revenue in the past 12 months.
