About this program
The Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section of the American Folklore Society offers the annual Leonard Norman Primiano Book Prize on Vernacular Catholicism to recognize and encourage outstanding interdisciplinary scholarship on lived Catholic religious practices and expressions. The prize includes a cash award, with winners announced at the Society’s annual meeting in October or November. Eligible submissions must be English-language, book-length monographs focused broadly on vernacular Catholicism and published within the 24 months before the May 1 deadline; articles, dissertations, reissues, edited works, and works in progress are ineligible. Publishers must submit four hard copies, or a PDF/download instructions for electronic-only books.
