Life-Changing Education Grants (University of Michigan)

About this program

University of Michigan's Life-Changing Education Grants provide $2,000–$20,000 awards to support research, events, planning, and storytelling projects that demonstrate how education changes lives and advance at least one of the program's Four Ways (Open Inquiry, Expanding Access, Campus of the Future, Sharing Scholarship). Eligible applicants are U‑M faculty, staff, and student organizations; community partners may co-lead with a U‑M fiscal sponsor and students must list a faculty or staff sponsor to manage funds. Projects must produce a public-facing deliverable within a 12‑month timeline (Track 1: research/events/planning require a public resource within 60 days of completion; Track 2: storytelling requires an archival storytelling product), meet accessibility and U‑M fund-routing/reporting rules, and conform to budget guidelines that permit personnel, event, planning, stipend, and community-partner costs but exclude departmental overhead and certain equipment/travel. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis (applicants typically hear within 2–6 weeks) and funded teams must join the program Learning Community and credit Life‑Changing Education in outputs.
