Martin Burr Grants (Martin Burr Bequest)

About this program

The Henry Sweet Society for the History of Linguistic Ideas offers Martin Burr Grants from the Martin Burr Bequest, providing small awards (usually up to £500) to support work in the history of linguistic ideas and practice. Funding may be used for public engagement with non-academic audiences, archival work, interviews, workshops, exhibitions, film or similar projects, and to support research by under‑represented groups or in under‑represented areas of the history of linguistics; awards may be supplemented by other sources. Both members and non‑members may apply (successful non‑members must join the Society before funds are released); applications, submitted by email, must include a statement (max 300 words) explaining use of funds and fit to the scheme plus a cost breakdown. Two annual deadlines apply (30 September and 31 March) and successful projects should acknowledge the Henry Sweet Society and the Martin Burr Bequest.
