Medieval Academy of America Publication Prizes

About this program

The Medieval Academy of America offers annual Publication Prizes to honor and promote outstanding medieval scholarship across monographs, articles, digital humanities and other formats, with winners announced in February and presented at the MAA annual meeting; awardees receive a complimentary one‑year MAA membership. Nominations may be submitted by authors or publishers via the Publications Prize Portal by 15 October; submissions must be in English (eBook preferred), and authors need not be MAA members or North American residents while publishers may be for‑profit or non‑profit. Individual prizes carry specific eligibility windows and dossier requirements — for example, the John Nicholas Brown Prize is for a first monograph in its third year post‑publication, the Haskins Medal accepts monographs published two to six years prior, many monograph prizes require two to three published reviews, article prizes limit one submission per author and have timing/early‑career rules, and DH/Monica Green prizes require three assessments with DH projects being open‑access and currently available online.
