Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders Award

Funded by The Mellon Foundation in partnership with C&S, the Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders Award supports early-career faculty whose humanities or social science research addresses democracy, society, or education in the Americas. Each award provides a $20,000 stipend, including $12,000 for summer research support and $8,000 for academic-year research assistance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and assistant professors in tenure-track appointments, typically in their fourth or fifth year, who have passed a third-year or equivalent review by January 31, 2027, and are not yet ready to submit for tenure. Candidates should demonstrate strong scholarship as well as significant campus leadership, mentoring, service, and community-building; applications are due December 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
