Michael Hall Student Innovation Award

About this program

The Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB) offers the annual Michael Hall Student Innovation Award to support innovative research in marine fish biology (including commercially important invertebrates), awarding $3,000 to the winner and $1,500 to the runner-up for direct research expenses only (not for administrative fees, indirect costs, or organisational overheads). Applicants must be full- or part-time honours or postgraduate students in the first or second year of their degree at an Australian or New Zealand university and must be financial student members of ASFB; the same proposal cannot be submitted to both the Jonassen and Hall schemes in the same year. Download the application form from the ASFB Members Only Page, include the completed form and a supervisor’s letter, and email applications to awards@asfb.org.au by 30 April each year; decisions are notified soon after with a formal announcement at the ASFB annual conference.
