About this program

The Society for Applied Anthropology’s Michael M. Cernea Resettlement Fund provides one $750 travel award to support a student’s attendance at the SfAA Annual Meeting and presentation of applied research on forced displacement and involuntary resettlement. Research may address development-related displacement, gentrification, or climate-related hazards and disasters, with emphasis on the experiences and involvement of displaced populations. Applicants must have been enrolled as students during part of the current year and have an accepted non-poster paper abstract on a relevant topic. Applications require a short essay of up to 500 words and are due December 20; results are announced in January.
