About this program

The College Art Association’s Millard Meiss Publication Fund awards grants to support the publication of book-length scholarly manuscripts in art history and visual studies, with priority for expenses such as color plates, enhanced illustration programs, exceptional design, and permission/reproduction fees. Eligible projects must be under contract with a publisher that is an institutional member of CAA and are judged primarily on high scholarly merit and demonstrated financial need; technical reports, articles, previously published works (including collections of previously published essays), conference proceedings, and self-published manuscripts are ineligible. Publishers must submit applications through the CAA portal (requires a CAA individual or non‑member ID) including a publisher cover letter and budget, partial manuscript (TOC, introduction, sample chapter), illustration list and sample images, a five‑page minimum bibliography, two or more substantive peer reviews, the author’s CV and response to reviews, and a detailed budget; deadlines are March 15 and September 15.
