Minnesota Nurse Faculty Loan Forgiveness Program

About this program

The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care administers the Minnesota Nurse Faculty Loan Forgiveness Program to recruit and retain nursing educators in Minnesota. Selected participants may receive $9,000 annually, up to $36,000 over four years or the qualifying loan balance, subject to available state funding; the 2026–27 application cycle runs November 1, 2026, through January 6, 2027. Applicants must be completing a master’s or doctoral program, plan to teach nursing in a Minnesota postsecondary program, and submit applications through the Online Grants Portal. Participants must live and work in Minnesota, teach at least 12 credit hours or 720 hours annually, and complete a minimum two-year service obligation; eligible loans exclude credit-card, family, Parent PLUS, and loans in active default.
