National Theatre Company Grants

About this program

American Theatre Wing relaunched its National Theatre Company Grants in 2025 and will award five $100,000 grants annually to help regional nonprofit theatres develop visionary approaches to presenting new work by living American playwrights. Projects supported include co-productions of world premieres, national nonprofit tours, regional debuts, innovative audience‑development and community outreach, education and low‑cost ticket initiatives, and presentations of under‑represented deceased authors. Eligible primary applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit theatre organizations based outside New York City (organizations of all budget sizes may apply; partnerships with commercial, non‑theatre, and NYC organizations are permitted) and must demonstrate consistent, diverse programming, appropriate artist compensation, and the capacity (staffing and financial) to support the project. Funded projects must take place in Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027 (or beginning January 2027 for calendar seasons), require legal rights clearance and a detailed budget/project plan, and the 2025 application cycle is currently closed.
