Native American Research Assistantship Program

About this program

The Wildlife Society, in partnership with USDA Forest Service Research and Development, offers paid three-month summer research assistantships for Native undergraduate and graduate students in wildlife ecology, natural resources, and conservation. Participants gain hands-on experience in field or laboratory research, data analysis, professional communication, and potentially research dissemination. Applicants must provide a cover letter identifying a project, resume or CV, academic transcripts, documentation of tribal affiliation or descendancy, and two recommendation letters. Applications typically open in December and are due in January; future opportunities may be uncertain due to disruptions in federal program funding.
