Nellie Yeoh Whetten Award

About this program

The American Vacuum Society (AVS) administers the Nellie Yeoh Whetten Award to recognize and encourage excellence by women pursuing graduate studies in sciences and technologies of interest to AVS; recipients receive a cash prize, a certificate, and reimbursed travel to attend the AVS International Symposium. Eligibility is limited to registered female graduate students at accredited institutions at the application deadline, and nominees are normally expected not to graduate before award selection; an individual may receive the award only once. Following the Awards Committee meeting, the top ten student nominees are invited to give virtual presentations in late summer, from which eight awardees are selected and the highest-ranked female among them receives the Whetten Award. Selection is based primarily on demonstrated excellence in research and academic record.
