About this program
The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) offers the Nico van Strien Leadership in Conservation Award to recognize member-led conservation projects that protect, study, or promote stewardship of wildlife and natural habitats. The first-place recipient receives a plaque and $500, while second- and third-place nominees receive certificates of recognition. Nominees must be AAZK members in good standing affiliated with a North American zoological institution, aquarium, or related facility, and their conservation work must be separate from their primary job responsibilities. Candidates must be nominated by peers, may not hold specified AAZK leadership or staff roles, and applications are due May 1 annually.
