Norine Johnson, Ph.D., Psychotherapy Research Grant for Early Career Psychologists

The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (APA Division 29) offers the Norine Johnson, Ph.D. Psychotherapy Research Grant, an annual $20,000 award supporting empirical research on psychotherapy relationship, process, and outcomes by early career psychologists (within 10 years of earning the doctoral degree). Applicants must be doctoral-level researchers with a demonstrated publication record and current membership in the Society; IRB approval is required before funding if human participants are involved. Proposals are submitted electronically as a single package by March 1 and must include a project description (≤3 single-spaced pages), PI CV (≤2 pages), 300-word biosketch, timeline (projects completable within two years prioritized), budget and justification (≤1 page; no indirect costs), and a cover sheet; submit to Tracey A. The $20,000 is paid as a lump sum (W-9 required; 1099 issued), recipients must provide full accounting within six months of project completion, acknowledge the grant in publications, and are expected to submit a brief article to Division 29’s Psychotherapy Bulletin within two years.
