O'Brien Clinical Fellowship

About this program

The Neurological Foundation’s O’Brien Clinical Fellowship awards salary support (up to one full‑time equivalent equivalent to the fellow’s salary) for non‑medical health professionals to pursue clinical or biomedical neurological research in New Zealand or overseas, with research effort of at least 20% FTE per year and the total research FTE able to be spread over 1–5 years; recipients may also apply separately for travel grants up to NZD 4,500. Eligible applicants are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are NZ‑registered health professionals without an MBChB/MD (medical doctors and postdoctoral fellows are excluded); applicants may hold a PhD but priority may be given to those with less research experience. Applications are submitted by the Host Institution via the Neurological Foundation Grants Management System and must include NZ standard CVs, a primary mentor support letter, a Description of Proposed Research and Gantt chart, evidence of residency, and any relevant co‑funding or ethics letters; the Foundation does not fund institutional overheads or salaries already borne by the institution.
